Why Do Sad Things Have To Happen?

I love these thoughts:

President Spencer W. Kimball:
It is not the function of religion to answer all questions about God's moral government of the universe,  but to give courage (through faith) to go on in the face of questions he never finds the answer to in his present status.

If the time comes when you feel you can no longer hold to your faith,  then hold to it anyway. You cannot go into tomorrow's uncertainty and dangers without faith.

President Spencer W. Kimball:
“If all the sick for whom we pray were healed, if all the righteous were protected and the wicked destroyed, the whole program of the Father would be annulled and the basic principle of the gospel, free agency, would be ended. No man would have to live by faith.

“If joy and peace and rewards were instantaneously given the doer of good, there could be no evil—all would do good, but not because of the rightness of doing good. There would be no test of strength, no development of character, no growth of powers, no free agency, only satanic controls."

I love Ilon Wikland Illustrations

Much as I love the books of Astrid Lindgren, sometimes I think it's the illustrations of those books, (most are by Ilon Wikland) that have created much of that loving feeling.

So, here are some Ilon Wikland illustrations.  Enjoy!

Astrid och Agnetha

http://www.agnethaarchives.com/articles/ANonsmokingGeneration.htm

I thought this was fun to read:  an article (in English, not Swedish!) where both Astrid Lindgren, one of the best writers of children's literature, and Agnetha Faltskog, one of the singers in ABBA, were interviewed about their lives and about why they felt young people should not begin to smoke.

Astrid Lindgren

I found this site today, with wonderful quotes from the best children's book writer I know:  Astrid Lindgren.  My favorite quote is -
"A childhood without books – that would be no childhood. That would be like being shut out from the enchanted place where you can go and find the rarest kind of joy."

Speaking of which, a quiet miracle happened on Sunday night.  I thought of a story.  A book.  I told it to C.E.  and she liked it.  I told it to D.H. and he liked it.  I even told it to A.J., and he liked it, too.

So now I am writing it.

Oh, and the baby has now figured out how to move --but only in reverse, and not how to crawl forward.  He is so funny, cute, lovably delightful and delightable.  I just can't say enough.
